Sleigh Bells Schools the Metro, Scores Straight A’s
Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller of Sleigh Bells triumphantly return to the Metro.
Brooklyn based noise-pop duo Sleigh Bells returned to the Metro making up for a show that was cancelled in January due to vocalist Alexis Krauss’ bout with the flu. The seven month wait didn’t deter Chicago fans to sell out the show, enjoying the duo’s trademark sound of Miller’s hardcore-punk-inspired guitars and Krauss’ melodic vocals, exemplified by her sweet melodies found in “Rill Rill” to iconic indie anthems “Infinity Guitars” and “Riot Rhythm”.
Their acclaimed debut album “Treats” was an indie favorite, followed up by “Reign of Terror”, “Bitter Rivals”, “Jessica Rabbit” and 2017’s “Kid Kruschev”, with songs from these releases present at the Metro Saturday night, paired with a lighting design system befitting of the duo’s spirited performance.
Old Indie News: Prior to forming Sleigh Bells with Miller, Krauss was an elementary school teacher, enlightening fourth graders and ultimately incorporating her experience into the duo’s aesthetic and songwriting. I love this fact, and can only hope that a few of her past students were present Saturday night to give Ms. Krauss and Sleigh Bells a well deserved A+.
