San Cisco Exports Australian Indie Pop to Chicago
Fremantle, Australia’s San Cisco headlining Chicago’s Ribfest.
10,978 miles separate Chicago from San Cisco’s home of Fremantle, Australia. For Chicagoans, the import of some of the best garage indie pop south of the equator is worth the travel time. What did Chicago offer to the Australian four-piece in return? Ribs, of course!
Headlining Chicago’s 2019 Ribfest, Saturday night, San Cisco played an intimate, outdoor show, rich with catchy, indie favorites, led by Jordi Davieson’s vocals, Josh Biondillo on the jangliest of guitars reminiscent of Vampire Weekend and driving beats from bassist Jennifer Aslett and fan-favorite Scarlett Stevens on drums.
Performing “Awkward”, “Too Much Time Together” and “Fred Astaire” San Cisco delivered their Fair Dinkum brand of Aussie indie, inciting front-row fervor amongst fans in-the-know, as well as to the uninitiated onlooker enjoying a short rib sandwich. There was one notable omission: their cover of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”. Fortunately, you can check out a sample of it in the Spotify link below.

Despite her best efforts, Scarlett Stevens doesn’t blend into the scenery.
