Photographing The Knee-Hi's over and over taught me something, though it took years to fully click.
Watching them evolve from a mischief of "wide-eyed rats" to a high-energy band bigger than any artist I've photographed is what finally got me there.
Multiple shoots became a journey, and through that time, the photos I captured became windows into a story of their growth, determination, and pure chemistry between artists. The Knee-Hi's are a family first, bonded by something that felt larger than the notes they played.
I could sense it every time I pointed my camera at them.
Watching them over the years, I didn't need to coax energy from them for a shot. They carried it naturally, feeding off each other, off the growing crowd that mirrored their passion. Their presence drew something different out of me as a photographer too. It became about capturing that magnetic connection, the way they could electrify a room just by stepping on stage.
Their fanbase started small, but even then, you could feel that raw connection. And now, every show becomes a call and response between the band and their audience. It's about capturing faces, the performance, the pulse of that connection, and the way their growth inspires those around them.
Looking at the photos, it became clear. The gear? It barely mattered. The magic lay in the band's story, their spirit and synergy, and all I had to do was make sure my lens was ready to catch that energy as it unfolded at The Great Gathering Festival.
