SUNFLOWER BEAN

Seeing Sunflower Bean again was surreal, especially because the gap between shows was the longest I've had with any band.

SUNFLOWER BEAN — 1

I remember their roots in NYC, and seeing them now was reconnecting with part of my photography past.

Also a model, her performance mirrors the same energy and grace she brings to her fashion work, every movement deliberate yet effortless.

SUNFLOWER BEAN — 2

Photographing Julia in 2019 completely changed how I approach shooting bands.

I began seeing artists as portrait models as well, with microphones, basses and guitars as part of the scene, while performing the music I love. There's a certain power in how they command the camera, they're in control of the shot, not me. So when people ask what I look for in an artist, I tell them this: beyond the music, I look for how they own the stage and demand attention through my lens, whether through restrained intensity or chaotic energy. Julia set the tone for my portrait-centric approach, and even five years later, I'm still learning how to get it right, her recent presence on stage making the best type of reminder for me to do just that.⚡️
