HINDS

I often search international bands that embody the rock, punk, synth, and alt sounds I love. While the musical parallels draw me in, it's the unique differences that make each band stick. Experiencing songs in a language I don't fully understand, yet feeling their emotional intent, is special and no band embodies this better than Hinds from Madrid.

HINDS — 1

Even their English songs carry a charm that feels foreign and familiar, filled with warmth and stories waiting to be told.

At their Chicago concert, Hinds brought their story to life with their music and stage presence, delivering everything we'd waited months for. The true narrative didn't unfold until when I returned home and sorted through the photos. Those images revealed layers of emotion, capturing moments too quick to catch live but seen, frozen within a single frame.

What began as a joy-filled show transformed into something profound as I viewed the images, uncovering a story of love, goodwill, vulnerability, and hope.

Led by Ana García Perrote and Carlotta Cosials, their harmonies reflect years of shared experience, while their joy embodied a commitment to youth and music. As I reviewed the images, I thought about their journey, grounded in both their past and future, radiating solidarity and promise.

In the images of Ana, her sincerity shone through in ways I hadn't caught live. Her understated beauty and expression conveyed her heart, while newer band members Paula Ruiz and Maria Lázaro gazed at Ana and Carlotta with admiration. It was clear they had built something special together, filled with love and support. Ana shared that despite past challenges, the spark of youth within the band fueled their passion, pushing them forward.

I recalled a photo of young Ana and Carlotta, joyfully watching a concert from the front row, much like the fans looking up at them now. Toward the end of the evening, Carlotta proclaimed, “You know how cool it is to have girls on stage, right?” This acted as a powerful reminder that anyone who wants to perform deserves a place on stage, exemplified when they invited a young girl to play guitar for a song.
